Towers Guide

This week saw the launch of another exciting new mobile application from those clever chaps who like to play with iPhones.

Towers Guide

According to developers, the Towers Guide is an exciting new mobile application for the iPhone and iPod Touch which helps you to make the most out of your day at Alton Towers.

So that's the official line, but what does it actually do?

This clever little application allows you to browse through all of the rides, attractions and facilities at the theme park, as well as direct you to whichever ride you want to visit next and provide statistics on each ride before you get there. Are the kids tall enough to get onboard? The Towers Guide will tell you.

In a world where we are trying to cut carbon emissions and generally be more environmentally-friendly, the Towers Guide will surely see a reduction in the number of park maps used each day. Fewer maps used = fewer trees cut down. Everyone's a winner.

It would seem that the only thing the Towers Guide is missing is an interactive park map that you can scroll around and zoom in and out of. Maybe we'll see this in v2?

Alton Towers Guide

The application is 100 per cent free and you can download it from http://towersguide.com or the app store on iTunes.

However, Alton Towers isn't the first park to have such a service. Disney has had plans to offer something similar in its US parks since 2008 while Timestream Software are also offering an unofficial guide to many of the Disney parks on iPhones. This version even offers FastPass alerts straight to your phone so you never have to miss a ride again.

The possibilities are endless. And when you combine the technology mentioned here with the robo-wristbands that are currently being tested in America, you soon realise that the theme park experience is changing. For the better too.
