Fifteen-year-old Amy Watkins walked half a mile to school with a broken leg in order to qualify for a school trip to Alton Towers Resort.

The teenager fell down the stairs at home while getting ready for school but hobbled to school anyway because she did not want to mar her perfect attendance record. Hereford's Kingstone High School rewards pupils that have 100 per cent attendance with a day out at Alton Towers Resort. Any absences, even those excused by a doctor, and they no longer qualify.

Her parents wanted to take her to the hospital when the accident occurred, but the teenager was adamant that she still went to school and so pretended to be fine. The extent of her injury was unknown until she returned home from school, collapsed in tears, and was then taken to the hospital by her mother.

Despite having its critics, the school has experienced a significant improvement in attendance since introducing the Alton Towers reward scheme.
