The park was developed by Emaar Retail in association with the Japanese gaming giants Sega Corporation, creators of the world famous Sonic the Hedgehog series.

Mr. Arif Amiri, Chief Executive Officer of Emaar Retail said: "The much anticipated launch of the Sega Republic indoor theme park marks yet another milestone for Emaar Retail. Sega Republic is the first of its kind in the Middle East and it delivers an unmatched, distinctive leisure experience for all visitors. The theme park complements the myriad of other leisure attractions within the mall and provides quality entertainment for all visitors."

The new theme park is home to 150 arcade games across five themed zones: speed, adventure, sports, cyberpop and redemption (prize winning). There are nine exciting rides including the Sonic Hopper, Halfpipe Canyon, Storm-G, Initial D4 Limited and the largest ride, Spin Gear, which takes up more than 20% of the site. Guests can also enjoy motion-simulators, simulated sports games, carnival games and one of the region's largest selection of redemption games.
