Newquay Zoo has successfully bred two endangered Owston's Civets in a bid to help endangered species.

Owston's Civet

Owston's Civets are native to Vietnam and are hunted illegally for their fur and meat. There are currently fewer than 10 Owston's Civets in the world's zoos, where they live exclusively in breeding programmes.

The Owston's Civit breeding programme at Newquay Zoo also offers financial support to a conservation programme in Vietnam. The zoo successfully bred a set of twins three years ago, the first set ever born outside of Southeast Asia.

The two latest cubs born at the zoo have been named Dong Hoi and Dong Ha after two Vietnamese islands.
