Germany's own Evel Knievel, Dirk Auer, set a new world record by skating down an 860 metre rollercoaster on specially designed in-line skates.

Dirk Auer on Mammoth in Stuttgart

The descent of the 860 metre track, Mammoth, took place at the Trips Drill theme park in Stuttgart. The journey lasted just over 60 seconds, during which time Auer reached speeds of 56mph.

Mr Auer designed and made the monster skates himself in 110 hours over the course of two months. Auer said that due to the dangerous nature of the stunt there was no room for error and hence used 16 rollers on each shoe.

Auer admitted that it was a dangerous stunt and expressed relief that everything had gone according to plan stating that "It was a lot of fun".

Auer already holds a world record for reaching speeds of 190 mph while being dragged along behind a Porsche GT2.
