Ever fancied stepping back in time to the Middle Ages but just can't find the parts you need to finish your flux capacitor? (Back to the Future joke).

This bank holiday weekend, Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex will host England's Medieval Festival, bringing history to life for three full days. Described as "Britain's most magnificent celebration of the Middle Ages" the three day festival offers fun for families and history buffs alike.

English Medieval Festival

Activities and entertainment include: jousting, falconry, archery displays, have-a-go archery, strolling minstrels, jesters, Europe's largest Medieval trader's row, grand parades, craft stalls, living history encampments, kid's kingdom, hog roast and stunning walled gardens.

A one-day family ticket only costs £36, making a day of historical shenanigans an affordable way to spend the bank holiday with the kids. Overnight accommodation in the grounds of the castle is also available at a very reasonable rate.

The highlight of the festival will no doubt be the siege. Over 1000 knights, bowmen and men-at-arms will lay siege to the 15th Century castle with.....wait for it....FULL CANNON SUPPORT! How many weekends can you say you spent in a castle under siege?

If you fancy doing something a little bit different this weekend, visit Herstmonceux Castle. See you there!
