Plans for the world's first "heritage amusement park" were unveiled in Kent this week after months of planning from various local groups in the area. Dreamland designs

The Dreamland Trust, Thanet District Council and site owners the Margate Town Centre Regeneration Company have been busy in meetings discussing the future of Dreamland, the once celebrated amusement park, located in Margate.

Vintage rides from Blackpool and Southport are already in storage and are awaiting delivery to the park. The rides will be placed around the existing Scenic Railway, the oldest rollercoaster in the UK.

The Scenic Railway, which is Grade II listed, was almost completely destroyed in an arson attack in 2008 with more than half the ride lost to the flames. However, experts have said the structure can be repaired to its former glory.

Margate has already been awarded a £30,000 government grant under the Sea Change scheme and the trust have had meetings with the Heritage Lottery Fund in a bid to secure further funds.

Spokesman Sarah Vickery said: "We have had meetings with the Heritage Lottery Fund and they have been really positive. These aren't some plans that we scribbled up on the back of a fag packet. We have spent months and months putting them together."

The total cost of Dreamland's resurrection is in the region of £12m.
