China's Largest Theme Park Set to Open 8 August, 2009

A new theme park, Shanghai Happy Valley, is set to open in China on 8 August, 2009 at Mount She and will be the largest such attraction in the country.

Shanghai Happy Valley will span across an area of more than 900,000 square metres and will include seven themes including Sunshine Port, Happy Times, Shangri-la, Ant's Kingdom, Shanghai Beach, Gold Mine Town and Hurricane Bay. Water will be the park's main theme.

The impressive new theme park will be home to exciting attractions including a wooden coaster named Fireball and the Mine Train Coaster. The site will also have a two-kilometre-long road and a 2.5-kilometre-long canal, which will connect all of the attractions.

A range of entertaining events will take place in the OCT Theatre, which will seat 4,500 people. Exhibitions and food venues will showcase at the Arthur Palace that can hold 1,400 people.

Chairman of OCT Shanghai, Liu Pingchun announced that Shanghai's Happy Valley is part of a nationwide chain development chart by OCT, which aims to set up more Happy Valleys in different Chinese cities. Negotiations are under way with the Wuhan government discussing the potential launch of a Happy Valley which will serve Central China.
