Alton Towers Resort's Cloud Cuckoo Land cable car station has been destroyed by fire.

Six fire engines were dispatched to tackle the blaze at 22:30 on Tuesday, they took roughly four hours to bring the flames under control. Fortunately, the ride was closed at the time and nobody was injured.

Cloud Cuckoo Land cable car station will not reopen for "the forseeable future" and some areas of Alton Towers around the ride will be fenced off while the fire is investigated.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service's Assistant area commander, Andy Kinsman said: "We don't believe at this stage there's anything untoward with the start of the fire."
