Alton Towers Thrill Laboratory
Feb 13, 2009
By Jon Lane
Later on this month Alton Towers will be running a Thrill Laboratory - taking tests of thrill seekers as they ride the world's first vertical drop roller coaster: Oblivion.
This event is totally free once you're inside the park, and Brendan Walker, Senior Tutor of Design Interactions at the Royal College of Art and a team of 'Thrill Engineers' will be testing out the reactions of people who ride on Oblivion through a series of psychological and physiological experiments in order to calculate 'thrill factor.'
A session lasts around two hours and requires 8 volunteers to participate. Volunteers will be required to wear specific equipment to monitor their personal response to Oblivion.
Sessions are on Wednesday 19th September, Thursday 20th September, and Friday 21st September at the following times:
10:00 - 11:45
13:00 - 14:45
16:00 - 17:45
So, if you're looking for something different on your theme park break, book for one of these dates and email thrill.lab@alton-towers.com to volunteer with your preferred date and time slot. First come, first served. Those who have already registered interest will be given first refusal.
NB Volunteers must sign a disclaimer pre-arrival and may also be required to be take part in any associated PR as a result of the event. Details of this event are subject to change.
