St Paul's Cathedral

The world famous dome of St Paul's Cathedral dominates the London Skyline and is steeped in both history and charm. St Paul's is a major landmark and a must-see London attraction for families with slightly older children. Mum and dad can immerse themselves in the sheer beauty and heritage of the site, whilst the younger members of the family will love testing the acoustics of the Whispering Gallery and dragging you up the 530 steps to the Golden Gallery.

Open to visitors six days a week and worship on Sunday, St Paul's takes you on a journey back through the ages. Christopher Wren's design is the fourth cathedral to occupy the site and dates back to the 17th century. The first church was erected in 604 AD and was constructed from wood - later to be destroyed by fire. The current building not only pays homage to the heritage of the site but also stands testament to the history of our land.

St Paul's Cathedral Highlights:

  • No visit to St Paul's is complete without a trip to the Whispering Gallery and dome. Some 259 steps take you to the Whispering Gallery and another 271 steps take you to the top of the dome. Hard work is rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding area.
  • A visit to the Quire is an absolute must for fans of beautiful architecture and exquisite artwork. Ornate designs and staggering stained glass windows provide a feast for the eyes.
  • The Dome at St Paul's Cathedral is one of the largest in the world, weighing 65,000 tonnes and towering an incredible 111 metres in the sky.
