Hever Castle

Hever Castle, built in the 13th century, is riddled with history and has impressive grounds for you to enjoy. Stroll round the English and Italian gardens and take in the beauty of the flowers, ponds and water features.

The castle was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, who became Queen of England when she married King Henry VIII in 1533.

Hever Castle Highlights:

  • Step inside the walls of Hever Castle, climb the spiral staircases and explore the historic rooms.
  • If you are feeling brave visit the collection of armour as well as the instruments of execution, discipline and torture.
  • Witness daring jousting tournaments, beautiful falconry and skilful archery demonstrations that feature in the castle's special events.
  • Go boating on the beautiful 38 acre lake and see how much wildlife you can see.
  • Kids can enjoy the Adventure Playground and even find their way through the Henry V111 Tower Maze. The Yew Maze and The Splashing Water Maze are fantastic for adults and children. Challenge each other to a race and see who can find the way out first.
  • The Open Air Theatre is a great place to relax and unwind in beautiful surroundings. Enjoy a peaceful summer's evening of entertainment.
  • Check out the detail of the model houses in the castle's superb collection.

Food & Drink

At Hever Castle there are some great places to have something to eat before continuing your action packed day. The Pavilion Restaurant near the lakes and gardens serves a selection of delicious food and drink. The Moat Restaurant, which over looks the castle also serves tasty food and has a Moat Grab and Go section serving sandwiches, children's lunch bags, ice cream tubs and drinks.

Accessibility:

Gardens: Mostly accessible as most are on one level. The majority of steps are ramped. The water maze is also suitable for wheelchair users.

Castle: Unfortunately there are no ramps into the Inner Courtyard of the castle which makes access difficult and impossible for electric chairs. The ground floor is accessible to wheelchairs, however, other levels must be reached via spiral staircases and therefore can not be accessed.

Facilities: The restaurants, book shop, gift shop, and the miniature model house exhibition all have wheelchair access. Toilet facilities for disabled guests can be found near the Entrance Lodge and in the restaurants.

You can hire a wheelchair at the gift shop for a refundable deposit. It is advisable to book these before you visit.

A carer enters the castle for free with every disabled guest. Guide dogs for the blind and hearing dogs for the deaf can enter all facilities including the castle.
