Dover Castle
Dover Castle towers high above the spectacular White Cliffs and is an impressive site to visit. Discover the Secret Wartime Tunnels, walk the extensive battlements and even tour the underground hospital.
One of the largest castles in the country, this historic site holds centuries of secrets. Take yourself back in time and learn how enemy ships were detected at the Admiralty Lookout, you can even learn some Morse Code. With so much to see and do, Dover Castle is a great place to visit.
Dover Castle Highlights:
- Let your imagination run wild as you explore the Secret Wartime Tunnels built deep within the cliffs. Having been used as an air-raid shelter, military command centre and an underground hospital the tunnels are definitely worth a visit.
- Follow the incredible story of a wounded wartime pilot as you tour the castle's hidden underground hospital.
- Walk in the Step of History through the rooms where Sir Admiral Ramsey planned the "miracle of Dunkirk", which saw the rescue of more than 300,000 troops from Dunkirk.
Food & Drink
The Naafi Restaurant serves a good selection of food and drinks both hot and cold. The Keep Coffee Shop and the Secret Wartime Tunnels also serve a selection of tea and coffee as well as delicious homemade refreshments.
Accessibility:
Access to castle and grounds: There are tarmac paths which run through the extensive grounds, however, there are some very steep slopes. Wheelchair routes and guides are available.
Access to Secret Wartime Tunnels: There is good access for wheelchair users but please be aware that the entry is down a steep slope. Mobility scooters are available and should be requested in advance. A land train is available for access to different areas of the site.

Secret Wartime Tunnel tour: timed ticket system in operation. Last tour one hour before closing. Please note, during peak periods early tours are booked up quickly so there may be a wait for later availability.
