Alton Towers to Ban Smartphones

With the half term break now upon us, thousands of families are queuing up to visit the UK's top theme parks and enjoy bit of quality family time. In a bold new move, the Alton Towers theme park is imposing a ban on all PDAs and Smartphones throughout the park in an attempt to pull the family together and leave the office at home.

The "PDA Free Zone" scheme is being piloted throughout the school holidays in May, and may become commonplace if it is deemed a success. There are going to be schools of PDA Police roaming park, keeping an eye out for offenders. Those caught in possession and using a PDA or Smartphone will be directed to one of the safe "PDA Drop Off Zones" where they will have to hand over the device until they leave the park at the close of play.

Divisional Director, Russell Barnes stated, "What we have here is the ultimate short break location where every member of the family can unwind and have fun... we are prepared to take drastic action to ensure that parents really leave their work behind!"

If the scheme becomes a success, and the ban is employed full time, we expect other parks will probably follow the cause. Watch this space for more news on the topic.
